"BROKEN BOUNDARIES"
"Broken Boundaries" demonstrates the overwhelming nature of modern technology. It threatens of all aspects of life that have meaning, freedom of choice, human sense of scale and individual creativity. Technology has always been a major means of creating new physical and human environments. It is possible to ask, whether technology will also destroy the global civilization that human beings have created. No one can predict the impact of technology on humanity, and its consequences on the social, cultural, economical and physical environment.
"Broken Boundaries" points to the necessary rediscovery of man confronted by the machine. It portrays how postmodern men can no longer get along without the machine. Its human element is perpetual and trapped between two opposite realities, the human and the mechanical. They both oppose and complement one another, and in a puzzled manner, they both perform in part as humanizing machine and mechanized human. The suggestion that humans may be lost within a mechanical culture, and therefore attempt to find signs of humanity within the mechanical, could be read as a fundamental act of mutual connection between the two that is essential for survival in this new revolutionary technological world order.
As we just stepped over the threshold of the new millennium, the whole climate of humanity versus technology has changed. Technology has become more than a mere addition to human life. It transcend a real part of it, and perhaps has penetrated its very soul. In all of its complexity, technology has profoundly impacted humanity, and enormously elevated the fundamental dilemma that endangers the breakdown distinction between the human and the mechanical. It seems that due to this unavoidable encounter, a precarious new culture has evolved, and found new means of expression that re-characterized and redefined profound human identity. An identity that on the one hand fills with values, emotion and desire, while on the other it faces the dual threat of fear and machine control.
“Broken Boundaries” images are painted in a Surrealist manner, which is characterized by the bizarre and irrational. Canvases are filled with evocative images set upon a desert landscape, as they might appear in a dream. The mechanical being images are being portrayed with anonymous faces hidden by expressionless and emotionless masks. Their body figures have replaced human anatomy with nuts and bolts of pure steel that become a flickering projection of dreams and power that no longer contradict profound human intelligence. Humans on the other hand, are painted with black coat and black bowl hat. In order to establish the relationship between the subconscious and the external world. They portray the human type of the present and the future, who represent a soul-less group that reflect a pattern of submerged values that no longer matter. They are perfect vehicles for the “Broken Boundaries” projection, not in the individual, but in those relations of uncertainty.
